.NE TRIP 10-08-10

ok ppl so NE trip is this tuesday, 10th of August. we'll be meeting at marina bay mrt at 9am. with luck we'll all be on time and can reach marina barrage by 10am.

basically, what's gonna happen is that we'll go to the marina barrage, take a few photos then sit down for a picnic. so the purpose of this blog post is to tell you ppl what we need to bring, and would be good if we brought.

So as my sms said, everyone shld bring some food/drinks. keep it small and easily consumable. noodles and such, are okay .. salads are stretching it... and cakes, nice as they are, will most likely not be eaten.

decide what you wanna bring and sms me so that i can update the blog on what is being brought so that as far as possible not everyone brings the same thing.

Ok shall update this since its dead, means I'm reviving the dead I guess? Alot of you guys want a new class tee since like, the previous one was so old and we are a throwaway cultured society, aren't we? So yup design your class tee design and probably show it to Karl or me or someone in class and we'll vote lo. Try to do it by June? Mid years coming le. So I know many of you (esp fangyin and gang) will just think eh someone else will design la just sit back and wait. Then when all of you do this there is no deisgn then there is no shirt then you all complain like Karl deprived of porn. So pls take the initiative to design if you think you have an Idea or if you really want a class tee. For others to change you must first change. So start drawing now. Yes we can. (except Karl, he cannot)

Hello again 0903! I am Ng Yu Xun and i will be speaking and informing you about the Sentosa outing this thursday,12th Nov. Ok enough of this serious talk.
Here's the details:

8.30am: Meet at habourfront mrt passenger service

9.15am: buy tickets for sentosa!!

9.30am: OFF WE GO!!!

10.15am: Picnic breakfast at Siloso/Free and easy(ball games, sun tan, swimming, talking session)

4.30pm: Wash up

5.30pm: Back to vivo for dinner!!

Sentosa Outing

Yo all, I've checked with Ms Liang and we do not have to attend school on the 12th Nov, Thursday so we are all free to go Sentosa on that day!! I was thinking we could meet at habourfront in the morning at like around 10? Or we wouldnt be able to get good spots and the beach volleyball court. Yep. Then we can have lunch or something there before taking the train to Sentosa!! So, do bring the stuff that ur we need such as:

Class outing to Sentosa!!

Hello guys!! As most or in fact all of you should know, im thinking of organising a class outing to Sentosa on 12th November(Thursday). It should be a whole day thing from morning to maybe late afternoon? We can have class dinner after that as well, just like in orientation!! Yep. Actually have already decided on most of the things just that we need to confirm that we do not have to attend school on that day. Oh and i suppose everyone has completed OP by then right? Do inform me if you haven't and we can change the date ASAP. Oh and also msg me if you guys can make it!! Lets have fun together after such a stressful period of time, have some HTHT and play some games to tighten our 0903 bonds!

Oh yeah 1 more thing. Congrats to all those who have fared well in the promos. However try not to smile to widely when u see those who did not fare as well( ME INCLUDED!!). For those who have not done so well, at least all of you have tried your best right? Like what the pro speaker said, it doesnt matter if we fail or fall down, the thing is, we have to make sure we fall forward and be able to stand up again. Well, it might be very hard at first, well for me that is, but life goes on right? We will all be rooting for each other all the way!! So have faith in yourself as the final results are not out yet!! DON'T GIVE UP!!

so all of have known by now (ya all as in ALL 29 people haha) there's a chalet coming up. the organizing people are more or less karl shaohua me and joled.. if there's a problem w money look for shaohua, for admin stuffs look for me, bbq stuffs will be joled, and if you just wna be an asshole (HAHAHA) look for karl. jun an will be in charge of meals together with lance and umm, ya thats all.. dont worry jun an is safe. LOL. seriously.

as we've emphasized for so many times NSRCC is not your typical chalet.. it is damn isolated we all will be technically quarantined. so therefore stockpiling of food and drinks are damn important (just dont bring too much we'll have a problem later on LOL) so everyone please contribute by bringing your favorite 1.5litre drinks and cup/instant noodles or biscuits/bread/you get my point.

i believe by now everyone should have received an email regarding what to bring, where's the place, how to go and the important details. those who havent please tell me in class i'll send you the email.

check in time - 2pm (you all can come right after 2pm)

HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE IS OUT ON THE 16TH OF JULY!!!!

so anyway from recent reports everything indicates that this will be the best HP film yet so watching it is a must.

since the MYE's are officially over... take a short breather before the final run in to the end of year promos..

anyway... i cant think of anything so im just gonna write a short paragraph from a book by orson scott card.

A great rabbi stands teachiing in the marketplace. It happens that a husband finds proof that morning of his wife's adultery, and a mob carries her to the marketplace to stone her to death. (I'm sure most people have heard the familiar version so here's a tale of 2 other rabbis who faced the same situation)

The rabbi walks forward and stands beside the woman. Out of respect for him,the mob forebears , and waits with stones heavy in their hands. "is the anyone here," he says to them, "who has not desired another man's wife or another woman's husband?"

They murmur and say, "we all know the desire, but none of us acted upon it."

The rabbi says, "then kneel down and give thanks that god had you strong." He takes the woman by the hand and leads her out of the market. Just before he lets her go, he whispers to her, "Tell the magistrate who saved his mistress.Then he'll know I am his loyal servant."

So the woman lives because the community is too corrupt to protect itself from disorder.

Another rabbi, another city. He goes to her and stops the mob, as in the other story, and says, "Which of you is without sin, let him cast the first stone."

The people are abashed, and they forget their unity of purpose in the memory of their own sins. Someday, they think, I may be like this woman, and I'll hope for forgiveness and another chance. I should treat her the way i wish to be treated.

As they open their hands and the rocks drop to the ground, the rabbi picks up one of the fallen stones, lifts it high above the woman's head and throws it straight down with all his might crushing her skull and dashing her brains onto the cobblestones.

"Nor am i without sin." he says to the people, "but if we allow only perfect peopel to enforce the law, the law will soon be dead, and our city with it."

So the woman died because the city was too rigid to endure her deviance.

The famous version is note-worthy because it is so startling rare in our experience. Most cities lurch between decay and rigor mortise and when they veer too far, they die.

When i first read this i found it interesting because all i've ever heard was the "original version". Much like the numerous variations of the tale of "the tortoise and the hare" each version gives us a new insight and forces us to change our original mindsets with each new version of the tale.

Using such a story as an anecdote for future GP (oh god gp... NOOOOO) essays might boost your score.. just remember to cut down the words or the anecdote might fill up half your essay. =)

hmm im gna try something different. my favorite comedian is demetri martin, so im gna post some of his jokes here. but WARNING. some of his jokes requires an extremely high order of thinking to understand them. so people like me and joled will be able to appreciate them whereas people like kelvin or danhui (HAHAHAHA) wont. okay lets start.

I think Employee of the Month is a good example of when a person can be a winner and a loser at the same time.

One time, I was riding the escalator and I tripped. I fell down the stairs for an hour and a half.

I set a personal record on Christmas. I got my shopping done three weeks ahead of time. I had all the presents back at my apartment, I was halfway through wrapping them, and I realized, 'Damn, I used the wrong wrapping paper.' The paper I used said, 'Happy Birthday.' I didn't want to waste it, so I just wrote 'Jesus' on it.

About a month ago, I got a cactus, and a week later, it died. I got really depressed because I was like, damn, I am less nurturing than a desert.

One of my friends has a stutter, and a lot of people think that's a bad thing, but to me that's just like starting certain words with a drum roll. That's not an impediment, that's suspense.

Some authors write in first person and others write in third person. But I'm writing my book in fifth person, so every sentence starts out with: 'I heard from this guy who told somebody....'

Just saw this passage i liked on the net. Not the original cos i lost the link but this is how the story goes in my own words. - SH

One day, a man was driving along a deserted road, when his car broke down all of a sudden right in front of a chinese temple. The head monk came out and offered him a place to stay for the night for free and also to fix his car for free. Then man accepted.

During his stay, he heard this mystical sound that was resonating from behind a large wooden door. It was so amazing that he wanted to know what that sound was. When he asked the head monk, the head monk told him that he was not allowed to know what that sound was or where it came from. Because he was not a monk. The disappointed man drove off in his fixed car after thanking the head monk.

One week later, the man was driving along the same road again when his car broke down once more in front of the temple. The head monk smiled when he saw the man and again offered him a place to stay and to fix his car for free. During this stay, he once again heard the mystical noise echoing from behind the large wooden doors. Determined to know what this sound was, he once again asked the head monk. The head monk once again told him "sorry, I can't tell you because you are not a monk."

The man then asks, "What does it take to become a monk?"

The head monk replies, "To become a monk you must travel the globe to count the number of grass blades and the number of grains of sand that inhabit this planet. Only then can you become a monk."

The man thanks the monk, and sets out the next day to discover how many blades of grass and how many grains of sand there were on this planet. 45 years later, the man returns to the temple, and is again greeted by the now very old head monk. The man tells the head monk, "There are 27,239,299,290,948 blades of grass in the world and 78,209,948,398,094 grains of sand"

The head monk nods his head in approval and says," now you are ready to become a monk"

After shaving his head, the head monk passes the man a set of keys. Wooden keys to unlock the wooden door. Behind it was another pair of metal doors. He used the metal key provided to open this second door. This went on as the doors became made of silver, gold, crystal, many other gems, and as he moved closer and closer the sound became stronger and stronger.

Finally he was at the last door. He put the final key in, and with a swift turn, he unlocked it. As he pushed open the door, they creaked at their hinges, light poured out from the room in front of him. Finally, after 45 years he would know what was behind this door that gave out the magical sound. What was behind this door? What gave out this heavenly tune?
